Vinyl flooring in Marietta, GA from Select Floors

The different types of vinyl flooring

While all vinyl flooring is highly praised for its style, durability, waterproof capabilities, low maintenance, and easy installation, there are different types and generations, including sheet, vinyl composite tiles (VCT), luxury vinyl, and waterproof vinyl.

Sheet vinyl: long-lasting, resilient style

This type of vinyl comes in large sheets, usually 12 feet wide, and various colors, patterns, and textures.  It can be installed by glue-down or loose-lay method, the latter meaning it hovers over the subfloor without nails or glue.  Vinyl composite tiles (VCT) are stylish, known for sturdiness, suitable for high traffic floors, and are often seen in commercial applications. VCT installation can be glue-down or peel and stick.

Luxury vinyl (LVF): premium product

High quality but still affordable, LVF features designs inspired by nature and is a beautiful alternative for those who want the look of wood, stone, or tile but, for whatever reason, can’t have it.  Images are taken with 3D photography and show every detail, and colors and patterns are vibrant.

Unlike sheet vinyl, luxury vinyl can be cut into strips and mounted on boards to mimic hardwood, called vinyl plank flooring. It can also be cut into groutable squares to echo stone or tile, called LVT flooring.  True LVF should be thicker, at least 8-mm, but preferably higher for a more authentic, quality feeling.

Waterproof flooring: The new “it” flooring

Everyone's clamoring for this. It is engineered vinyl with the same style and characteristics as LVF but is thicker and more durable with an SPC (stone plastic composite) or WPC (wood plastic composite) core.  These technologically advanced cores will never peel or ripple, no matter how much water the floor is exposed to or for how long. Both LVF and waterproof flooring can be a fast and uncomplicated floating floor where the pieces click together, mat, then hover over the subfloor with no nails or glue.

At Select Floors, we believe that installation is just as important to appearance, performance, and longevity as the product itself. Whether simple or more complicated, all techniques get the same attention to detail with high quality, craftsman-like placement.  To learn more, come into our showroom in Marietta, GA, serving Roswell, Alpharetta, and Johns Creek.  Be sure to ask about your free vinyl flooring quote.
